My life and the city
The Saint Parascheva Metropolitan Cathedral in Iasi
+
Saint Parascheva is the saint that protects the city of Iasi(Iassy) from the times of prince Vasile Lupu(in the XVIIth century) when she was brougt in the Principality of Moldova from the Saint Mount of Athos(Greece); 14th of october is the celebretion of the saint and of the city of Iasi - Saint Parascheva is the most important saint in Romania, actually we have 3 saints that have connections with our history: 1. the most important is Saint Andrew, the Apostle, sent in Dacia(roman province) by Jesus to show the romans the word of God, and so, Saint Andrew is the protector saint of Romania; then, in the middle ages, the 2 principalities - Valachia and Moldova - had 2 protector saints: Saint Dimitrie for Valachia and Saint Parascheva for Moldova - too much of orthodoxy for 2005, hmmm?...Okie, so the day of the city, nowadays, is very strange, the initialsense was lost in time - people don't know what to believe in, after 42 years of communism when the religious celebrations were forbidden, we are in front of a strange celebration - a celebration in which the politicians come to the bones of the saint to get some votes from the "vulg"(la folla = the crowd)... these days we saw there the social-democrats - PSD(actually the former communists - I guess the former leaders of the Romanian Communist Party: Dej, Pauker, Stoica, Maurer, Ceausescu etc. are swinging in their graves if they see their children: Iliescu, Nastase, Geoana, Mitrea etc. prostrating to the Saint Parascheva! lol I guess people change in 15 years from complete imbeciles in nice social-democrats guys.... yeah, sure!); also we can see a conservative nation(romanians are so conservative in religious stuff - about 80% are trusting the Orthodox Church! lol!!!! I can understand that; after the persecutions and the terror of the former regime people turned to the saints... but I can see this as something anachronic with the stream of the new world, of the new Romania and it's place in Europe...)... Everytime when the city celebrates the day of Saint Parascheva I see in the eyes of the people the past, the merciless history of this land(and I'm not exaggerating at all!!), all the hopes and all the disappointments...it's a sad feeling...
In the same city, in the same time, me and my boyfriend, P., we are ready to celebrate our own life: one month since we are together(He he he...)...and this is friday 21st of october; it will be something cool - we don't know - yet - what shall we do for friday, all I know is that I have classes till 20:00(rahat!)... yeah... see you!
